Primary Purpose and Function

Lead and motivate students in a collaborative endeavor of rigorous learning and instruction. ISECC educators are characterized by a relentless belief in the potential of the students we serve; a solutions-oriented mindset; and a passion for providing rigorous and high-quality instruction to all of our students.

ISECC educators are excellent communicators in the classroom, with parents and stakeholders, and with their colleagues, team members and school leadership. The ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish is an essential quality for all of our teachers.

Provide special education services according to the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for an assigned caseload of students with disabilities in accordance with compliance to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) mandates.

Responsibilities

  • Provide services and support to students with disabilities in conformance to school and state curriculum and/or instructional objectives.
  • Review IEPs to determine student needs for appropriate services and provide accommodations and modifications in the general education classroom.
  • Schedule, coordinate and facilitate annual IEP meetings as required.
  • Communicate with parents to assure that IEP forms are signed appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Provide parents/guardians of students with IEPs the Procedural Safeguards at least once per year as mandated by law.
  • Explain special education programs and procedures and respond to general questions.
  • Collaborate with the special education team to evaluate student readiness to transfer from special classes to regular classes and provide supportive services to the classroom teacher.
  • Attend IEP staff meetings as required.
  • Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the central administration, parents, and representatives of resource agencies.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school.
  • Other duties as assigned.
